Dear All,
Due to an overwhelming response to the recent pre-negotiations survey, the Faculty Association Negotiations Committee wishes to inform you that the update, scheduled for Thursday, November 25th, has been cancelled. Interest in attending the pre-negotations update was also regrettably poor.
FANC received well over 400 completed surveys, with a significant volume of written comments. FANC feels it will be more productive to process all of this data and use it to table and prioritize items for negotiation, before reporting to faculty for further input.
Results from the survey will shortly be distributed to all members. A negotiations update will be scheduled for the new year.
Thank you,
Faculty Association Negotiations Committee
At the April 28, 2010 AGM of the MacEwan Faculty Association, the following motion was passed:
THAT the Executive Committee further investigate governance models and return with a specific proposal for approval by the membership at the 2011 Annual General Meeting.
In order to ensure that the varying perspectives on governance are considered, the FA is looking for representation from the membership at large to sit on a sub-committee which will examine models of governance for the FA. If you are are interested in participating on this sub-committee, please contact Jerry Zdril, Faculty Association President, at zdrilj@macewan.ca or 780-497-5066.
In February 2010, MacEwan applied for membership in the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). AUCC is the national association of Canadian public and private not-for-profit universities. The association provides member services in public policy and advocacy, communications, research and information-sharing, and scholarships and international programs. While AUCC is not a national accrediting agency, institutional membership brings credibility to a university’s programming by indicating that an institution’s programs meet academic standards common to Canadian universities. AUCC membership will greatly enhance the national and international reputation of our institution and will be of great benefit to students.
AUCC is an association that represents universities: its criteria for membership requires each applicant institution to demonstrate it has governance and administrative structures appropriate to a university; quality assurance processes for the periodic review of academic programs (involving peer-review); and policies and procedures relating to academic freedom, intellectual integrity, and research/scholarly activity. As part of its mission, the institution must support teaching and other forms of dissemination of knowledge; research, scholarship, academic inquiry and the advancement of knowledge; and service to the community.
Additional information about AUCC and their criteria for membership can be found on www.aucc.ca.
As part of the application process, three university presidents – Eddy Campbell (University of New Brunswick), Alan Wildeman (University of Windsor), and Mark Evered (University of Fraser Valley) – will conduct a site visit of MacEwan November 29th and 30th. The visiting committee will be primarily interested in matters related to the collective agreement and the faculty association. Faculty members will be asked to discuss their experience as faculty members and faculty association members.
The following are opportunities for faculty members to interact with AUCC representatives during their visit (RSVPs required for all):
