A grievance only arises when there is a violation of your rights under our collective agreement.

However, many other things may arise during the course of your employment that, while they fall short of the legal definition of a grievance, they still represent an issue that negatively affects you.

Types of Concerns

The GMUFA may be able to assist you with:

•    the student appeals process
•    interpersonal issues with other co-workers – if these involve another faculty member, you may wish to pursue a claim under the GMUFA Code of Professional Conduct
•    human rights complaints
•   negative student evaluations

Finding Solutions

Whatever your concerns, the faculty association can work with you to resolve them.  If we are able to resolve your issues at an early stage, we can prevent many grievances before they occur.  Often, we work through the Grant MacEwan University Human Resources department, but we can also resolve issues directly with your chair or dean.
