Call for Flying & Driving Pickets - McGill University

May 3, 2024

The Association of McGill Professors of Law (AMPL) on strike and has requested our picket support for May 10, 2024. AMPL is negotiating their first Collective Agreement.

This is a call for flying and driving picket volunteers to walk in support of our colleagues on the lines at the McGill University campus in Montreal, Quebec, on May 10, 2024, should they still be on strike.

For effective and efficient coordination of the picket, it is important that both flying and driving pickets inform me directly, rather than the sender of this message, at mshawumfa@gmail.com if they can fly or drive in support of our sisters and brothers at AMPL.

For the Directors who volunteer, at this point please do not make any flight and/or hotel arrangements until you hear from me.

FLYING PICKETS: As per Defence Fund SRR 7.4.4, up to 10 flying pickets may participate.

In the event you volunteer and receive a second notice, plan to arrive Thursday, May 09, 2024 (flying into Montreal, YUL), for a full day of picket line duty on Friday, May 10, 2024, and a departure no later than Saturday, May 11, 2024.

DRIVING PICKETS: There is no limit on the number of Driving Pickets that can make the trip. In the event you volunteer and receive a second notice, plan to arrive Friday, May 10, 2024, for a full day of picket line duty on Friday, May 10, 2024, and a departure on no later than Saturday May 11, 2024.  The drive to the picket lines should normally not exceed 350 kms one way. Volunteers driving short distances should consider a day trip. Driving pickets should attempt to travel as a group. As much as possible, each driving group should provide me with the names and coordinates of those travelling beforehand so that all are included on ensuing communications and entered as expense claimants.

Please consider seizing this opportunity to show your solidarity with, and thanks to, the AMPL for their willingness to defend their—and by extension our—rights.

 In Solidarity,

 Michael Shaw
